The scene is populated by a multitude of figures, ranging from classical deities and putti to contemporary figures in historical dress, suggesting a universal history of human affection.

In the upper centre, a radiant, winged figure presides over the gathering, surrounded by a cloud of cherubs. Below, the scene splits into distinct groups. To the left, classical figures, including a shepherd with a sheep, evoke an Arcadian past. To the right, figures in Renaissance and later period attire interact, creating a juxtaposition of time periods. The etching technique allows for a wide range of tonal values, from the deep shadows of the wooded background to the bright, ethereal light surrounding the central celestial figures. The artist uses fine, cross-hatched lines to define the textures of fabric, foliage, and skin, demonstrating the technical precision for which Flameng was recognised during his career in Paris.
