Despite his short life, cut short by tuberculosis, Vasilyev made a significant contribution to Russian art, influencing later artists with his sensitive and realistic depictions of nature. Vasilyev's paintings often depict the Russian countryside, with its vast fields, forests, and dramatic skies. He was associated with the Peredvizhniki movement, which sought to depict the lives and landscapes of ordinary Russians.
