Description
Lairig Ghru frames a stony Highland pass below sharply cut mountain faces, where a pale burn threads between boulders beneath a clear blue break in the clouds.
Angular grey crags rise steeply on both sides of the valley, their pale seams and shadowed gullies breaking the darker slopes. Rounded boulders scatter across the floor, where a narrow ribbon of water winds through grass and gravel towards the distant notch.
For hill walkers and nearby residents, Lairig Ghru recalls the concentration required on a long mountain passage. The route appears in the water and stones rather than a marked road, carrying the eye through the valley towards the high ground and the changing light on the ridges ahead.
