Corneille, a founding member of this collective, rejected the rigid structures of traditional European art in favour of spontaneous, intuitive expression. This work reflects the group's interest in primitive art, children's drawings, and the uninhibited release of the subconscious mind. The composition is dominated by a dense network of black, calligraphic lines that weave across the surface. These marks act as both boundaries and conduits for the underlying colour.
