The work depicts a scene inspired by the life of the ninth-century poet Ono no Komachi, reimagined through the aesthetic lens of the late eighteenth century. Eishi, a former painter in the service of the Tokugawa shogunate, brought a refined sensibility to the ukiyo-e genre. His figures are characterised by elongated proportions and a sense of grace that departs from the more robust styles of his contemporaries.

The composition features three figures navigating a snow-covered path. A woman stands under a large umbrella, her posture suggesting a quiet moment of observation.
