Description
Jedburgh raises the long arcades of its ruined abbey above a green riverbank, with pale stone towers, nearby slate roofs and distant Borders hills beneath broad clouds in a muted blue sky.
Jedburgh Abbey stands among the houses of this Scottish Borders town, its ruined walls visible from the opposite riverbank. The long nave and square central tower rise above the nearer roofs, while open hills behind the settlement keep the abbey within its wider rural setting.
Tall arches alternate with smaller upper openings across the pale masonry. Dark gaps in the stone reveal the roofless interior, and a slender pinnacle rises at the left end. Trees and pink flowering shrubs partly screen the lower buildings. Below them, the quiet river repeats bands of blue and green, balancing the warm stone against softer foliage and distant slopes.
