The drawing employs a schematic approach to reveal the internal organisation of the vessel, documenting the placement of crew, cargo, and structural elements across multiple decks.
The artist uses a clear, linear style to delineate the ship's hull, masts, and rigging. By removing the exterior plating, Unsen provides a transparent view of life and labour on board. Figures are depicted in various states of activity, from those manning the upper decks to others occupied in the lower storage areas. The inclusion of Japanese kanji annotations suggests this work functioned as an educational or observational document, intended to explain the mechanics of foreign naval power to a domestic audience.
Visually, the work balances technical precision with the stylistic conventions of Japanese ink drawing.
