Description
Inchnadamph in Highland Assynt places white cottages beneath a long grey escarpment, with a small winding burn and ochre moorland opening across the foreground in clear autumn light.
Inchnadamph is a small settlement in Sutherland’s Assynt district, with a name derived from Gaelic for meadow of the stags. It contains a historic parish church and a handful of houses. Nearby Loch Assynt and the ruins of Ardvreck Castle connect the hamlet with the wider district’s history.
White houses with dark roofs sit among leafy trees below a broad rock wall, whose pale ribs catch the light above shaded green slopes. A thin blue stream winds through rust brown marsh in the foreground. Narrow roads pass the cottages, and slender poles stand beside the fields. Gold grass, brown heather and patches of orange on the hillside suggest the beginning of autumn.
