Description
High Cup Nick above Dufton sets a great limestone rim above a folded green valley, where a pale stream threads towards the distance beneath clean blue weather.
The cliff edge runs in a long, fractured line across the skyline, its vertical faces catching warm light above striped slopes. Below, a narrow watercourse bends through the bowl of the dale, flanked by olive turf and pale scree. Rough blocks project from the near hillside, making a stony lookout over the broad sweep of ground beneath scattered cream clouds.
High Cup Nick above Dufton captures the dramatic reveal at the head of this Pennine hollow. For walkers who have stood at its rim, the view brings back the descent of the valley, the sound of water below and the long escarpment holding the horizon in place.
