Description
See Hawick in its wider Borders setting, with pale houses and slate roofs spreading across a green valley below gently rounded hills and a bright open sky.
A broad grassy bank falls away across the foreground. Close terraces show individual chimneys and a red doorway, while taller trees screen the gaps between buildings. A narrow brick chimney rises at the right, and a dark conifer plantation forms a compact cap on one of the far slopes.
Hawick is viewed from the Motte, placing the nearby homes at The Loan within a much larger spread of town and countryside. The outlook feels residential and familiar rather than ceremonial. A person with roots in the town can recognise the close relationship between its everyday streets and the soft hill country that remains visible around them.
