Description
Hannah's Meadow looks along a calm river towards Durham Cathedral, where the paired stone towers rise above trees and a low arched bridge in reflected evening light.
Dark river stones break the glassy foreground, carrying broken reflections of the towers and pale cloud. A two-arched stone bridge crosses beneath the wooded bank, while the cathedral's long roof and tall central tower stand high behind it. Reeds and overhanging foliage close the nearer edges, making a green frame around the water.
For those attached to Hannah's Meadow, the familiar route towards Durham offers both riverside quiet and the city's unmistakable skyline. The bridge creates the passage through the picture, with the cathedral remaining visible above the trees as a marker for walks beside the water.
