Description
Gravel Pits centres on a still blue-green quarry lake, where pale cut rock and heathered ledges give the open Essex view an unexpected calm.
Stepped stone faces catch the light along the right shore, their broken pale surfaces reflected in the water below. A rough platform projects from the foreground beside purple heather, while trees soften the quarry rim. Beyond the far edge, patchwork fields climb towards a long mauve-brown hill under high white cloud.
Gravel Pits brings water, exposed stone and open country into one view. People who follow its paths can recognise the contrast between close rock edges and farmland above, with the quiet basin holding the sky and trees in reflection.
