This work by Elias van Nijmegen presents a classical allegorical scene, depicting the personification of Geography alongside the goddess Minerva. The composition is structured within an architectural frame, suggesting its original purpose as a design for a decorative wall panel or a ceiling fresco. Van Nijmegen, a Dutch painter active in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, was known for his contributions to the interior decoration of grand houses in the Netherlands.
