Description
Fan y Big is shaped around a dark, sheer rock escarpment, its sunlit upper grass and calm mountain lake giving the Welsh summit a watchful, spacious mood.
Cloud shadows gather around Fan y Big as fractured grey faces rise from folded slopes above a wooded basin. A pale, glassy loch runs along the foot of the mountain, bordered by conifers and scattered boulders. The ridge is built in terraces, its ledges catching strips of light before falling into blue-grey recesses.
Walkers who know Fan y Big may recognise the pull between its high crags and the quieter water below. The scene follows that descent from exposed ground into the trees, keeping the scale of the Brecon Beacons close through rock, reflection and the enclosing slopes.
