Max Weber was a Russian-born American painter who helped introduce European modernism to the United States. By the 1940s, his style shifted from his earlier Cubist and Futurist experiments toward a more expressive, figurative approach. This period often featured subjects from his Jewish heritage, rendered with gestural lines and a sense of physical movement. Family Reunion depicts a group of figures gathered around a table. The composition includes three men wearing traditional hats and a woman in a red dress. Weber uses heavy, dark outlines to define the forms, creating a sense of urgency. The figures are elongated and slightly distorted, which is characteristic of his later expressionist phase. Weber studied under Arthur Wesley Dow in New York and later travelled to Paris, where he encountered the work of Paul Cézanne and Henri Matisse.
