An abstract composition by Josef Albers, 'F 32 Pericles' features geometric forms and a stark palette of grey and black, connected by thin white lines.
Josef Albers (1888-1976) was a German-born artist and educator whose work, both in Europe and the United States, helped to define the course of 20th-century modernism. Albers is best known for his abstract paintings and colour theory. He studied at the Bauhaus, later teaching there until the school was closed by the Nazis in 1933. He then emigrated to the United States, where he taught at Black Mountain College and Yale University. His theories on colour relationships and perception were influential to generations of artists. 'F 32 Pericles' is an abstract composition featuring geometric forms and a stark palette. The work consists of two rectangular shapes, rendered in shades of grey, set against a black background. These shapes are connected by a series of thin white lines, creating a sense of spatial tension and geometric interplay. The composition is carefully balanced, with the lines and shapes arranged to create a dynamic yet harmonious visual experience. The limited colour palette and precise lines contribute to the work's minimalist aesthetic.
