Description
Eskdale in Cumbria spreads green field patterns between layered blue fells, with scattered white farms and leafy near woodland beneath billowing cream clouds on a sunny afternoon in early autumn.
This western Lake District valley follows the River Esk from the high fells towards the Irish Sea at Ravenglass. Boot and Eskdale Green form its principal villages. The narrow gauge railway through the lower valley began carrying iron ore in 1875, before becoming a heritage passenger line.
Eskdale opens beyond a leafy canopy towards green fields divided by dark hedges and scattered white farms. Wooded lower slopes rise into blue mountain folds on both sides of the long valley. Rust shrubs interrupt the near green bank below overhanging branches. Billowing cream clouds and a few turning leaves suggest sunny afternoon weather at the beginning of autumn.
