Frantisek Kupka was a pioneer of abstract art, moving away from representational subjects to explore the musicality of colour and form. This work, from his early period of experimentation, demonstrates his interest in the rhythmic potential of geometric shapes. The composition relies on a series of vertical, curved elements that suggest movement and spatial depth without referencing physical objects.

Kupka often looked to the natural world for inspiration, yet he distilled these observations into pure abstraction.
