Description
Dalton-in-Furness centres on a stone viaduct above a tumbling woodland waterfall, where warm masonry and deep green leaves beside the falling water catch the afternoon light.
The bridge runs across the top of the gorge in honey-coloured blocks, its single arch opening onto a dark pocket of trees. Below it, water breaks over several rocky shelves before gathering in a shaded pool, with slender trunks and dense leaves enclosing the view at Dalton-in-Furness.
This blend of old infrastructure and close woodland suits a town whose surroundings reward a slower detour from the main road. The falling water gives the scene its movement, while the high arch keeps a firm, familiar line above the green canopy nearby.
