Description
Cuckmere Meanders follows a bright blue river through green floodplain to chalk cliffs and an open sea, with shingle bars and low slopes completing the view.
From a high grassy bank, the water turns in wide S-curves around smooth islands of pasture. Pale deposits collect along the inside bends, and the valley opens towards a long wall of sunlit white rock. Clear turquoise water occupies the right edge of the scene, while field paths and darker vegetation give the foreground a layered, sloping frame.
Cuckmere Meanders brings river, coast and downland into one coherent sweep. The changing course of the water gives the image movement, but the calm geometry of the banks keeps it composed and spacious. For a home that already holds memories of the Sussex coast, it offers a fresh way to recognise the landscape from above, with its distinctive meeting of freshwater and sea.
