Description
Craigairie Fell rises beyond a bright blue inlet, its rounded summit and pale rock outcrops seen from a heathered slope that gives Dumfries and Galloway a broad coastal feel.
Large grey boulders fill the foreground, broken by purple heather and grass brushed in olive and ochre. Across the water, fields and dark tree belts lead to the mountain's craggy crown, while flat white clouds sit high in a clear turquoise sky.
This view of Craigairie Fell speaks to the pleasure of reaching open ground above the shore, where the route lets sea, farmland and high rock appear together. Residents may recognise the changeable colours of the slopes; visitors can take the same wide bearing from the inlet to the summit. The foreground stones give the scene a firm, weathered footing.
