He is known for his depictions of beautiful women (bijin-ga) and actors (yakusha-e). This print exemplifies the ukiyo-e style, which flourished during the Edo period in Japan. Ukiyo-e, meaning 'pictures of the floating world', often portrayed scenes of everyday life, entertainment, and celebrated figures. The courtesan is shown seated, holding a fan, and adorned in a patterned kimono. A box containing New Year decorations, including pine branches and what appears to be a lobster, sits beside her. The print also features calligraphy, adding another layer of artistic expression. The composition is flat, typical of ukiyo-e, with an emphasis on line and pattern rather than deep perspective.
