It belongs to the series Eight Views of Lake Biwa, a traditional subject in Japanese art that Shinsui reinterpreted through the lens of the Shin-hanga movement. The artist focuses on the atmospheric conditions of the scene, using vertical lines to represent the driving rain that obscures the distant horizon and creates a sense of isolation.

The composition is anchored by the long, wooden bridge stretching across the water.
