Description
Cayton Bay in North Yorkshire spreads beneath green cliffs and white coastal cottages, with a small stream crossing shore rocks towards blue shallows in the bright clear light of summer.
South of Scarborough, this sweeping sandy bay lies below a coastline shaped by erosion and landslips. Wartime defences remain around the shore, while unstable clay slopes near Knipe Point have drawn attention to the continuing movement of this part of the Yorkshire coast.
Across Cayton Bay, pale houses line the upper edge of a grassy cliff broken by orange earth. A small stream descends over dark rocks on the left into a shallow blue pool. Golden sand fills the foreground beside gentle surf. A squat block stands near the cliff foot, and bright white cloud gives the broad beach an open summer light.
