Description
Cardurnock Flatts pairs still water and reed beds with sheer pale cliffs, their sunlit faces rising high above scattered shoreline boulders and wind-bent grasses.
Tall pale cliffs occupy the right side of the scene, their faces divided into broad vertical blocks of light and shadow. Reeds fringe still blue water in the foreground, with dark boulders resting at the shore. Low gold-green slopes lead away beneath a large cream cloud.
At Cardurnock Flatts, this calm waterline makes a useful counterpoint to the hard edge of the cliffs. The composition gives visitors and local people a way to remember the small details of the shore: reeds at the water's edge, stones underfoot and the long wall of rock above.
