Description
Cannon Beach looks across a sweep of surf to offshore sea stacks, with a cool, spacious mood beneath the high clouds The offshore rocks stay prominent.
White lines of surf curl along the broad beach and trace the turquoise water. Dark sea stacks rise just offshore, including one taller pointed rock farther along the coast. Forested headlands frame the shore, and blue-green mountain ridges recede behind the distant settlement. Evergreen branches enter at the lower left, placing the viewer above the beach.
The view of Cannon Beach connects the long shoreline with the rocky forms that stand beyond it. The waves lead towards the headland and the smaller offshore rocks, while the farthest stack provides a clear marker on the horizon. It is a coastal scene remembered through the changing edge of surf and stone.
