Description
Canisp in Highland Assynt belongs to a country of isolated peaks and winding water, where grey rock shelves and olive moorland stretch towards a bold sunlit mountain skyline.
Canisp reaches 847 metres in Assynt, qualifying as a Corbett. It stands in the extensive Glencanisp Forest, a tract of rocky ground and lochs. Its geology brings Torridonian sandstone above a base of Lewisian gneiss, with a pale cap of Cambrian quartzite distinguishing the upper mountain.
A dark blue loch fills the lower middle of the view, narrowing into a winding channel through green flats. Rock ledges stripe the rounded foreground hills, while a high blunt crag dominates the distance beside a smaller pointed peak. Side light catches the exposed stone and leaves long cool shadows across the moor. The bare slopes and short grass suggest a clear summer day.
