Description
Buttertubs Pass brings a winding moorland road and stout stone bridge beneath a dark upland crag, giving the North Yorkshire route a brisk, open-air character.
A single arch carries the roadway over a narrow stream, its blocks picked out against shadowed grass. Beyond it, the carriageway turns through folded hills and climbs towards a steep, flat-topped escarpment. Long bands of ochre and olive run across the fellside beneath broken white clouds, making the road feel closely tied to the contours of the ground.
Buttertubs Pass may speak to anyone who has driven or cycled through the Yorkshire Dales, where each bend reveals another rise in the moors. The bridge and rising track preserve that feeling of forward movement, with the high ground always drawing the route onwards.
