Description
Brecon's riverside setting gives its mountain country a welcoming human scale, an inviting Welsh choice for those attached to the town as well as the hills beyond.
Blue-grey water stretches below a line of rough bank stones. Open green fields occupy the middle ground, interrupted by tall slender trees and a low hedge. Pale houses gather around a narrow church spire before layered purple summits, with dark conifers marking the left-hand slope.
The Usk places Brecon within an expansive valley rather than apart from its surroundings. The fields give a gradual transition from riverbank to roofs, while the uplands remain clearly visible behind them. For a connection made through walking in this part of Wales, the view offers an appealing balance between the nearby town and the more demanding country on its horizon.
