Description
Ben Hogh rises in warm evening light above a rocky island shore, its flat-topped summit and still inlet bringing a calm, remote character to Argyll and Bute.
Purple shadow settles across the lower slopes, where dark boulders meet a band of silver water. Striated rock faces descend from the summit, and a faint headland crosses the far side of the inlet. Heather and low scrub fill the near ground, catching orange light beneath a peach-coloured sky.
For someone who has crossed the island, Ben Hogh can bring back the change from open ground to stony shore. The sheltered water and low shoreline suggest the last stretch of a walk, when the evening light settles on the rock. Its broad summit keeps the island's scale close at hand.
