Bamboo and Rock in Snow - Kuwayama Gyokushū

Kuwayama Gyokushū, a scholar-painter active during the Edo period, produced this work in the Bunjinga tradition. The artist employs a technique known as 'negative space' to define the snow, leaving the silk unpainted around the dark, sharp leaves of the bamboo.
