This etching depicts the Roman god Bacchus, seated atop a large wine barrel, surrounded by a retinue of mythological figures. The composition follows the conventions of the Baroque period, utilising a dense arrangement of figures and foliage to create a sense of movement and abundance. Bacchus is shown as a corpulent figure, a common representation in art of this era, reflecting the god of wine and excess. He is flanked by a satyr drinking from a vessel and a female figure pouring liquid into a cup, while a small child and a large feline creature complete the scene at his feet.
