Description
Arkle (Sutherland) in Highland catches orange evening light above golden pasture, its pale craggy ridge standing beyond a small dark house beneath layers of peach and purple cloud.
In the far northwestern Highlands, this Sutherland mountain rises to 787 metres. Quartzite gives the upper ground its pale character, within a region where rivers and glaciers have left isolated heights standing above an intricate landscape of low knolls and lochs.
Arkle (Sutherland) spans the horizon in grey and mauve, with warm orange edges along its broken crest. A small house sits among dark trees at the foot of the slopes, beyond an open field divided by a thin fence. Long gold grass blades and purple shadows fill the near view. The rich vegetation colours suggest autumn, while glowing clouds convey the warmth of a clear evening.
