Description
Abergavenny / Upper Wye Gorge follows a winding river beneath a towering pale escarpment, opening into green hills beneath a soft clouded sky beyond the valley floor.
The river bends through the lower valley in a quiet blue ribbon, edged by dense trees and small fields. On one side, a long wall of pale stone rises almost straight from the water, its vertical faces catching the light. Beyond the gorge, folded hills carry hedges, woodland and farms into the distance, with a pale horizon held beneath broad cream clouds.
For visitors and nearby residents, Abergavenny / Upper Wye Gorge recalls the point where a river journey becomes more enclosed and dramatic. The curve of water beside the cliff offers a clear sense of passage through the valley, before the ground opens again towards the hills.
