Paris Bordone

Paris Bordone was an accomplished musician before he established himself as a painter in the Republic of Venice. He moved to the city at the age of eight. He studied music and grammar before joining the workshop of Titian. His apprenticeship was short because Titian was unwilling to share his technical knowledge with his students. The older master even used his social standing to strip the young Bordone of an early altar-piece commission.

Biography

Bordone turned away from Titian to follow the methods of Giorgione. He combined this atmospheric influence with a specific interest in architectural perspective. His works often feature complex buildings and figures in varied poses. In "The Adoration of the Magi" and "Madonna and Child with the Sleeping Infant", he displayed a talent for painting textiles and costumes. His portraits, such as "Portrait of a Bearded Man", are known for being lifelike and direct.

His art appeals to modern collectors who appreciate the technical precision and use of colour in the Venetian school. The use of x-radiographs on works like "Christ taking Leave of his Mother" shows the hidden layers of his creative process. These paintings provide a sense of historical weight and classical beauty. His compositions bring the architectural and human details of the Renaissance into a contemporary space.
