Raised in Borlänge and trained in Paris, Erik Sigerud is a Swedish painter whose canvases are deliberately unresolvable: figurative imagery, abstract passages, asemic writing, and photographic collage coexist in single works without reconciling into a unified style. The effect is intentional. Sigerud treats meaning as something formed in the viewer's mind rather than deposited in the object.

Biography
He completed an MFA at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in 2004, winning the Paul-Louis Weiller Prize, and spent a semester at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Back in Sweden, he developed a practice that extends into audio, performance, and installation alongside painting.
His largest canvases, such as "Monkey Mind" from 2010 at five metres wide, use the scale to accommodate what he calls the trace of past decisions: layers of earlier states kept visible rather than painted over. Works like "At the Border between the Official and the Excluded" (2017) and "Reality Without Origin" (2018) extend his interest in the political and psychological edges of experience. He has exhibited solo at Galleri Box in Gothenburg and Galleri Artem in Stockholm, and his work is held in the Swedish State Art Collection and Uppsala Art Museum.
