








Emanuel de Witte
Emanuel de Witte was a Dutch painter born in Alkmaar in 1617. His father, a schoolteacher, taught him geometry. He joined the Guild of St. Luke in Alkmaar in 1636 and later completed an apprenticeship with the still-life painter Evert van Aelst in Delft. During his early career, he produced portraits and history paintings featuring biblical or mythological subjects.

Biography
In 1650, de Witte began focusing on architectural themes, specifically church interiors. He painted various Protestant and Catholic churches, including the Oude Kerk in Delft and the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. In 1680, he painted the Portuguese synagogue in Amsterdam. He settled in Amsterdam by 1652 and remained there until his death in 1692.
