Alberto Biasi co-founded Gruppo N in Padua in 1960 on a principle that most artists would find intolerable: the work belonged to no one. All objects produced by the group (Biasi alongside Ennio Chiggio, Toni Costa, Edoardo Landi, and Manfredo Massironi) were conceived and executed collectively, with no individual author credited. The stance was a direct challenge to the Romantic myth of the solo genius and to the market structures that depended on it.

Biography
Born in Padua on 2 June 1937[1], Biasi studied industrial design and architecture at the University of Venice before Gruppo N brought him into the orbit of Arte Programmata, the Italian[1] variant of what was called Op Art and Kinetic Art elsewhere. The group's practice centred on visual perception: how the eye is deceived, how motion can be implied through static geometry, how superimposed layers of material produce an image that shifts as the viewer moves. Biasi's most characteristic individual works, the Oggetti Ottico-Dinamici (Optical-Dynamic Objects), layer cotton gauzes, metal wires, and perforated cardboard slats so that filtered light produces different configurations depending on the viewer's angle. His Trame series extends this into a more systematic investigation of woven and overlapping grids.
Gruppo N disbanded in 1966, and Biasi resumed individual practice without abandoning the core interest in perceptual mechanics. His work entered international circulation early: he participated in the 32nd and 42nd Venice Biennales and the 11th São Paulo Bienal, with museum presentations at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and the Palazzo Ducale in Urbino. He continues to live and work in Padua.
