The painting depicts the vision of Saint Philip Neri, who kneels in a posture of profound devotion, his gaze directed upward toward the Virgin and Child. The composition relies on a diagonal axis that connects the saint in the lower right to the celestial figures appearing in the upper left, creating a sense of movement and spiritual connection. Piazzetta employs a palette of warm, earthy tones, punctuated by the deep red of the saint's vestments and the blue of the Virgin's mantle. The lighting is dramatic, typical of the Venetian school, with soft, diffused illumination that defines the forms of the figures while allowing the background to recede into shadow.
