The figures are positioned before a heavy green curtain, a device that creates a shallow, stage-like space typical of the period. Christus demonstrates a clear debt to Jan van Eyck, particularly in the meticulous rendering of the golden halo and the soft, modulated light that defines the anatomy of the central figure. The painting functions as an object for private contemplation, intended to draw the viewer into a direct encounter with the narrative of the Passion.
