Mashkov rejects traditional academic smoothness, opting instead for a robust, almost sculptural quality in his brushwork. The flowers are depicted with a deliberate lack of fine detail, focusing instead on the weight and volume of the blooms against a textured, patterned background. The background itself is a notable feature of the piece. Rather than a neutral space, it is treated with a repetitive, mosaic-like application of pigment, which flattens the pictorial plane and pushes the bouquet forward.
