The artist employs a palette of warm flesh tones, contrasted against the cool, muted greens of the upholstery and the draped fabrics. Boucher was known for his ability to capture light on skin, and this painting demonstrates his technical skill in rendering textures, from the smooth surface of the subject's back to the crumpled linens and heavy drapery surrounding her.
