Gustav Klimt (1862–1918) was an Austrian symbolist painter and a founding figure of the Vienna Secession, a movement that broke away from traditional academic art in the late 19th century. Known for his distinctive style that fused sensuality, symbolism, and decorative opulence, Klimt’s work emerged during a period of cultural and intellectual flourishing in Vienna.
