This work by Jan Frans van Bloemen, a Flemish painter active in Rome, captures the idealised approach to nature common in the early eighteenth century. Van Bloemen, often referred to as Orizzonte, spent the majority of his career in Italy, where he developed a reputation for his depictions of the Roman Campagna.
