They are surrounded by four saints: Catherine of Alexandria and Augustine on the left, and Sebastian and Anthony the Abbot on the right. A young John the Baptist sits at the base of the throne, clutching a lamb.

Lotto employs a dynamic arrangement that departs from the rigid symmetry often found in earlier Venetian works. The figures are positioned with a sense of movement, particularly the angels above who crown the Virgin, their forms swirling amidst clouds. The artist uses a palette of saturated reds, blues, and deep greens, which contrast with the soft, ethereal light emanating from the upper register. The architectural elements, including the column on the left and the draped canopy behind the throne, provide a sense of spatial depth. The inclusion of an oriental rug draped over the throne base demonstrates the artist's attention to material detail and texture.
