Description
This etching by Anders Zorn, titled 'Cabin', depicts two female figures in a rustic interior, rendered with fine lines and subtle tonal gradations. The composition is framed by the cabin's wooden structure, creating a sense of intimacy and quiet contemplation.
Anders Zorn, a Swedish painter, sculptor, and printmaker, is well known for his depictions of everyday life, portraits, and nudes. His work often captures the atmosphere and light of the Swedish countryside. Zorn's technical skill in etching is apparent in this work, demonstrating his ability to create depth and texture with a limited tonal range. He was influenced by Impressionism, but developed his own style. 'Cabin' presents an intimate scene featuring two female figures within a rustic interior. The composition is dominated by the strong vertical lines of the cabin's wooden structure, which frame the figures and lead the eye towards a source of light at the top of the image. The figures are rendered with a delicate touch, their forms suggested through a network of fine lines and cross-hatching. The etching technique allows for subtle gradations of tone, creating a sense of volume and depth. The overall effect is one of quiet contemplation, inviting the viewer to consider the relationship between the figures and their surroundings.

Artist Biography
Anders Zorn
He was born in Mora in 1860, studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm, and worked across Paris, London and the United States. His ability to render water and flesh with loose, confident brushwork set him apart from more academic contemporaries. His etchings, numbering roughly three hundred, are considered among the finest of the period.
He returned to Mora later in life, establishing a museum and open-air museum there. The Zorn Museum remains a major cultural institution in Sweden. He died in Mora in 1920, at sixty.
