Description
A striking modernist still life by Danish artist Vilhelm Lundstrøm, 'Arrangement with Watering Can, Towel and Jars' features simplified forms and bold colours, bringing understated elegance to any space.
Vilhelm Lundstrøm's 'Arrangement with Watering Can, Towel and Jars' is a striking example of early 20th-century Danish Modernism. Painted in 1929, this still life showcases Lundstrøm's distinctive approach to form and colour. The composition features a carefully arranged collection of everyday objects – a white watering can, a neatly folded towel, and a selection of jars – set against a cool blue backdrop. Lundstrøm simplifies the forms, reducing them to their essential geometric shapes, while his use of bold, contrasting colours creates a sense of depth and visual interest. Lundstrøm's work is characterised by its clean lines, simplified forms, and a muted yet harmonious colour palette. His still lifes often evoke a sense of quiet contemplation, inviting the viewer to appreciate the beauty of the mundane. This particular piece exemplifies his ability to transform ordinary objects into compelling works of art. As a fine art print, 'Arrangement with Watering Can, Towel and Jars' brings a touch of understated elegance to any interior. Its timeless appeal and sophisticated aesthetic make it a perfect addition to a living room, dining area, or study, adding a touch of Scandinavian design to your home.

Artist Biography
Vilhelm Lundstrøm
Lundstrøm's Cubist period, though relatively brief, produced some of his most iconic works. His still lifes, featuring everyday objects like fruit bowls and bottles, are imbued with a sense of understated elegance. Stripping away extraneous detail, he reduced forms to their essential geometric components, creating a harmonious balance between abstraction and representation. Though he later moved away from Cubism, its influence remained evident in his simplified forms and refined compositions.
Despite his relatively short life – Lundstrøm died in 1950 – his impact on Danish art is undeniable. He paved the way for future generations of abstract artists, demonstrating the power of simplification and the beauty of subtle colour harmonies. Owning a Lundstrøm print is not just about acquiring a piece of art; it's about embracing a legacy of quiet innovation and timeless Scandinavian design.
