Jan Frans van Bloemen
Jan Frans van Bloemen earned the nickname Orizonte because of his ability to paint the horizon. He moved from Antwerp to Rome in 1689 and remained there for the rest of his life. He joined the Bentvueghels, an association of Northern artists, where he received his moniker. His brother Pieter van Bloemen was also an artist in the city. The two siblings frequently worked together on large canvases. He eventually became a member of the Accademia di San Luca, which was a rare achievement for a foreign painter.
