Cosimo Tura

Cosimo Tura was an artist active in Ferrara during the 15th century. He studied under Francesco Squarcione in Padua, where he took an interest in the works of Donatello. In 1456, he returned to Ferrara and received an appointment as court painter to Borso d’Este.

Biography

His work is characterised by metallic wiriness and hard-edged control. He often used architectural elements inspired by Antiquity and perspectival constructions. Between 1460 and 1470, he collaborated with Francesco del Cossa on the Pictures of the Months in the Palazzo Schifanoia.
