This engraving, dated 1790, is the work of French artist Jean-Jacques-François Le Barbier. It depicts a scene of military allegory, featuring a woman dressed in classical armour, seated upon a cannon, and a man standing before her in period attire. The composition is framed by a decorative border, typical of the book illustrations produced during the late eighteenth century. The inclusion of a shield, spears, and a fortress wall in the background suggests a narrative rooted in themes of conflict or heroic duty.
